Oh I do like to be beside the sea-side...Jules

Ah Felixstowe! Only a hop, skip and a jump from Flatford or "Constable Country", where iconic English landscape artist John Constable painted his beautiful country scenes. My hosts kindly took me out to Flatford today to wander the grounds and view the actual scenes that Constable painted. It was a perfect day - blue skies, sunshine, the air thick with the scent of flowering May.

Felixstowe itself is a classic English sea-side town. Although it was a beautiful day today with temps reaching about 25, the ocean was still far too cold to swim in. However, the English really do appreciate these days (which we tend to take for granted) and absolutely everybody was out taking in the sea air. People sat outside their quaint little beach huts with their trousers rolled up to the knees soaking in the rays. Slip, slop, slap just doesn't seem to be an issue over here, and people seemed to be turning various shades of pink and red before my eyes...I blended in quite well come to think of it!

A walk along the beach road festooned in lights this evening after checking out the Felixstowe container port - the biggest in Europe I am told.

Still prefer larger to ale...

Hello dear friend,
I finally managed to get your blog site details from Jamie (actually all of Canowindra did because he put it in the Phoenix)! Not sure how this site works but I have read a few of your entries and I can see that this trip will have a made a wonderful impression on you, and our town indeed.
OK, the niceties are over...WHAT, No Mr Darcy??? I can't believe they don't have cardboard cutouts of him at every swimming hole in the UK! Come to think of it I reckon that would be a great tourism spinner - think I'm on to something! The visit to 'Constable Coutry' must have been lovely. I went to the Turner to Monet exhibition in Canberra last weekend and really loved the Constable paintings there. We do miss you though and can't wait to hear all of your fabulous tales. The Deli has had to close as there has been no-one to buy the hazelnut coffee! I have seen your two gorgeous children several times, and Ella told me today that you were coming home in three sleeps - Mrs Mac gave me a wink and whispered "Three weeks!" I was at Preschool last week doing some work and I watched Ella do her news - she showed a bangle that she said you sent her home from England - so sweet. Jamie has been coming to Mother's Group a bit - nice to have a male around (we're waiting for him to roll up with a freshly baked batch of scones!!!) He's doing well with the Phoenix - so well in fact that it's become a broadsheet and sold to ACP for millions - oops, that may have been going to be a surprise...
Anyway, we're all well here, same old same old. Keep writing and enjoying and steer clear of the Chip Butties!!!
love from Liz xxx
